SALINE, MI -- Rock Paper Scissors is ending its time in Saline as it plans to close its two downtown locations.

The business announced it is closing both its gift shop at 104 W. Michigan Ave. and its toy store, Rock Paper Scissors Junior, at 106 W. Michigan Ave. This announcement comes after Rock Paper Scissors Junior was impacted by a mulch fire in June.

Rock Paper Scissors plans to continue to operate at 216 S. Main St. in downtown Ann Arbor, according to Facebook posts from the business.

“Due to recent fire damage to RPS Junior, we’ve made the difficult decision to close both stores in Saline,” Owner Lisa Roberts wrote in an email announcing the closure. “The last few months have been very remarkably challenging, and after the marathon dumpster fire gauntlet that has been 2020 and beyond, we’re going to listen to the universe on this one.”

Despite the decision, Roberts wrote, “There is a silver lining” for customers because the store will do a total warehouse clear out and sell items at a discounted price. The store will offer items 50% off at Rock Paper Scissors Saline from now until Aug. 10.

The business will then offer a “fire sale” alongside Saline’s Summerfest from Aug. 11-13, with continued discounts and new inventory every day. Customers can find brands like Lego, Brio and Playmobil, along with children books, outdoor toys and science and art kits. The business wrote “everything must go.”

“At Rock Paper Scissors, you know we love a theme. Well, this time we didn’t choose the theme, the theme chose us,” Roberts wrote. “Saline, thank you for your continued support over the years, and we look forward to seeing you in Ann Arbor.”
